THE LOWER-HYBRID-DRIFT INSTALITY IN THE MAGNETOPAUSE AND THE FORMATION OF THE PLASMA MANTLE AND THE CONVERTION OF THE MAGNETOSPHERE
    Tu Chuan-yi
    1982, 2 (2):  81-87.  doi: 10.11728/cjss1982.02.081
    Abstract ( 1333 )   PDF (531KB) ( 963 )   Save
Based on the lower-hybrid-drift instability theory in the magnetopause,a diffusive magnetosphere model is presented.Since there will be an anomalous resistivity in the magnetopause determined by the HLD instability, the magnetic field of the magnetosphere will diffuse outward and the plasma in the magnetosheath will diffuse inward. The outward diffused magnetic field determines the thickness of the magnetopause and the inward diffused plasma forms the plasma mantle. The inward diffused plasma also brings a small part of momentum and energy of the solar wind into the magnetosphere and drives the convection of the magnetosphere.

The orbital perturbations of a spacecraft with the monochromatic gravitational plane waves are discussed here. Our attention in this paper is to distinct the resonance of ω/n=2 from ω/n=1,3.They are classified in two groups. The former one disturbs the energy of the system directly and the latters perturb the shape of the orbits and cause the orbits rotate in the space.

During the flare of hard X-ray transient source A0535 + 26 (December 1977),its optical and X-ray luminosity are non-synchronous.X-ray luminosity reached maximum about ten days later than optical luminosity did.The model of sporadic stellar wind increase of hard X-ray transient sources is discussed. The variable optical luminosity caused by the variable stellar wind is examined. The phenomenon of non-synchronism is explained in terms of this model. These come to the conclusion that the model may be reasonable

Comets are rich in volatile material. It suggests that comets should form and keep for a long time in the low temperature region of the outer solar system. This paper analyses the structure of the outer edge region of the solar nebular disk, and shows that no formation zone of comets can exist there. We consider that comets would evolve from the surviving planetesimals in Jupiter-Neptune region.Such planetesimals make of both the rocky and icy materials and may be called as eometesimals.

EVOLUTIONARY RELATION BETWEEN METEORITES, METEOROIDS AND ASTEROIDS OR COMETS

In this paper, the evolutionary relation between meteorites, meteonoids and asteroids or comets is discussed in our viewpoint on the origin of asteroids and comets. Both asteroids and comets are the'halffinished product' of the planets evolved from the primitive nebula,i.e.surviving planetesimals. They show differences in their evolutions,in their orbital characters and their physics-chemical properties only because they form in different places, under different environmental conditions. When volatile-rich comets moved into inner portion of the solar system, they could easily disintegrate into a great number of meteoroids. The surviving planetesimals in the asteroid region could be broken into fragments by collision. Those fragments and crumbs could turn into smaller asteroids or meteoroids. In fact, there is no strict limits between smaller asteroids and bigger meteoroids. Some fragments of planetesimals in the asteroid region would evolve into meteoroids and enter into the atmosphere of the earth, they could then ablaze out as meteors.Cosmic dust, which failed into the solar system from interstellar space, could also become meteoroids

On the base of the Maxwell equations and moment equations, this paper has investigated the Coupling Processes of the excited waves in an inhomogeneous and bi-fluids plasmas under the action of a Line Sourse and has Presented the general equation for the Coupling of three moduli (Pe,Pi,E) ▽2[P]-[C]·▽[P]+[K2][P]=[D][▽·(ωp2Eo)] As an example,we have studied the case of the coupling processes in a homogeneous, lossy (v≠0),and bi-fluids Plasmas, showing that even if the plasma is homogeneous,so long as v≠0,a coupling will take place between the electronic plasma wave and the ionic plasma wave, but no coupling will occur between the Optical modulus and the plasma modulus.

MEASUREMENTS AND CALCULATIONS OF THE IMPEDANCE OF A CYLINDRICAL ANTENNA IN AN ISOTROPIC PLASMA
    Hsiao Tso;Wang Wen-chin
    1982, 2 (2):  130-136.  doi: 10.11728/cjss1982.02.130

Measurements of the impedance of a cylindrical antenna in an isotropic plasma and a comparison with theory have been made. The length of the antenna is comparable to the free space length. The EMF method was employed.Since sine and cosine integrals for complex arguments are not available, direct calculations have been made by substituting complex numbers into relevant expressions. The results showed an agreement between predicted and measured values, especially around plasma fre-quancies.This may be of some practical significance for the calculations and the measuring system described here in applications to certain spase plasma investigations.

THE STORAGE PROCESSES OF MAGNETIC ENERGY IN SOLAR FLARES
    Li Zhong-yuan;Hu Wen-rui

In this paper the evolution of force-free magnetic field was discussed. The kine-matical implication about the time variation of force-free factor and detailed processes of energy storage were analyzed. The limitation was pointed out when storape processes in solar flares were determined by the static force-free field theory. Therefore,a process of energy storage which is maintained by meridianal flow is suggested.Combining those processes of energy storage with some explosion processes triggered by a suitable instability, the main features of solar flares may be explained further

THE MECHANISM OF ACCELERATION OF RING CURRENT DURING A SUBSTORM OF MAGNETOSPHERE
    He You-wen;Hu Wen-rui
    1982, 2 (2):  144-151.  doi: 10.11728/cjss1982.02.144
    Abstract ( 1344 )   PDF (620KB) ( 1054 )   Save
Aprocess of turbulent dynamo action which leads to the growth of ring current is described in this peper.Owing to the strong magnetic field in the magnetosphere, the magnetic field configuration essentially satisfies the approximation of the force-free field. On the other hand, the fluctuating value of magnetic field is comparable to the mean value,When the electromotive force of the fulctuating field grows, the mean field and current density may grow in such a way that ring current is increased.Obviously, the turbulent or fluctuating field supplies the energy which keeps ring current during a substorm. This is a process of the acceleration of particles.Amodel of α2-turbulent dynamo is discussed specifically in this paper, and an eigenmodel of exponential growth of time is obtained The results of analysis have been used in discussing the process of ring current during a substorm, and a quantitative estimate has been made.

NUMERICAL COMPUTATIONS OF NON-LINEAR WAVES IN SOLAR ATMOSPHERE

We computed the upward propagation and evolution of different kinds of perturbations in the solar atmosphere, using HSRA as the unperturbed model. The dynamical equation used is an one dimensional compressible flow equation under gravitational acceleration at the solar surface.Polytropic gas equations of different γ's are used to close this equation set.Our results show that an upward progagated small perturbation can evolve into shocks at certain heights which are nearly independent of the thermodynamic processes involved, but depending strongly upon the strength of the initial perturbation. But the existence and interference of the turbalent field in the solar atmosphere will not allow these perturbations to develop into shocks. This confirms the idea that the mechanical waves generated from the convection zone are not very effective in heating the chromosphere and corona.
