DUCT PROPAGATION OF VERY LOW-LATITUDE WHISTLERS

Abstract: The propagation mechanism of very-low latitude whistlers is discussed. On the basis of characteristics of low-latitude whistlers, the diffusive and multi-hop whistlers during magnetic storms are thought to propagate along the paths of field-aligned ionization enhancements resultal from a disturbed eastward electric field. The simulation of low-latitude F region in the presence of a eastward electric field shows that the field-aligned ionization enhancements is a favourable condition for trapping and propagation of whistlers.
